For Currently Enrolled Post-Secondary Students  

2024-2025 Academic Year – Attending Spring 2025 Term

The Elizabeth Branch NAACP wants its membership to thrive and succeed. The Branch is pleased to share the Dr. Gerald Eugene Glisson Scholarship. This scholarship will provide financial assistance to deserving students who are currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational program at an accredited institution of higher education and are active members of the Elizabeth Branch NAACP (2083B).

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

(3) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to selected candidates. Scholarship awards will be disbursed to students who are currently enrolled into a post-secondary educational program during the Spring 2025 term, pending proof of enrollment. The Scholarship Committee will notify scholarship recipients by November 30, 2024. By December 31, 2024, successful candidates will be invited to attend the Elizabeth Branch NAACP – Annual Freedom Fund Dinner in February 2025. At that time, they will receive their award at the scholarship presentation.

Students may re-apply each year for scholarship consideration.

ELIGIBILITY AND EVALUATION CRITERIA

This is a competitive scholarship and applicants will be evaluated based upon academic ability, social awareness, civic engagement, and appreciation of community service. Applicants must meet all of the following criteria, and must comply with the Rules and Regulations as established by the Elizabeth Branch NAACP (2083B) Executive Committee:

  1. Students are required to be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited 2- year or 4-year College or University, or a recognized Technical or Vocational Post-Secondary school program with full-time status.
  2. Be an active member of Elizabeth Branch NAACP (2083B) in good standing and presently serve on a committee within the Branch.
  3. Provide a copy of the most recent official transcript from their current institution of higher learning.
  4. Submit one (1) letter of recommendation from the Chairperson of the committee they serve within the Branch or from an Executive Committee member.
  5. Submit a 300-500 word essay(typed and double-spaced)

Essay topic: “The work of the NAACP includes civic engagement. What community service activities and/or events have you been involved in as a member of NAACP and how have those experiences impacted you?”

  1. Submit a short biography that includes details about the current academic/technical field of study. (100 words or less, typed and double spaced)

APPLICATION TIMELINE

A completed application, along with all supporting documentation, must be submitted by November 30, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. All applications must be emailed or postmarked on or before the submission deadline. Incomplete and applications received after the submission deadline will not be accepted. Awardees will be notified by December 31, 2024.
